Luke’s 2nd Diaversary Giveaway: I Heart Guts

giveaway2017-iheartguts

You guys!! Have you seen I Heart Guts?? I Heart Guts is such a fun site that makes learning about your body a blast! When I heard about I Heart Guts, the first thing I did was check and see if they had a pancreas… and they DO!! giveaway2017-iheartgutsplush

I immediately bought Luke a plush pancreas to pound on when he’s frustrated with his T1. And I had to throw in a pancreas keychain to attach to his diabetes bag.

Now Luke wants to start collecting all of the I Heart Guts plushes… and if he wants to be a science teacher or an endo (his top two career choices at the moment), he could use the collection of plush body organs his whole life! (I can pretty much justify anything…)

  1. I’ve been wanting to get P one of these ever since we saw Luke’s! She doesn’t believe have a good way to get her frustrations out (another reason we need this!) – she usually heavy sighs, tells me she’s done with diabetes today, and takes a nap lol. ❤️❤️

  3. We get our frustrations out by dancing… when Elsie’s sugar gets high we dance away the high and the yucky feeling and when it’s low we get it up and dance to celebrate another time diabetes hasn’t stopped us!! Our music choice for our 4yo is the Moana and Trolls soundtracks on shuffle! 😍🎶

  4. Way to go Luke! I used to be upset on my diaversary when I was a kid and young adult. Somewhere along the way in the 38 years since diagnosis, I chose to celebrate also. Congratulations to your family for supporting like a champion team. I wish you all the best. XXXX to y’all.

  6. Oh, man! We just had our 4 year diabersary and this would have made a great gift. We are trying to help our kiddo find better tools for getting the frustrations out. Journaling is one of our strategies.

  9. When my T1 was diagnosed at 14 months on August 22, 2013 we weren’t sure how he would cope and get through things. But now he’s 5 and finding ways to get out his frustrations are coming to him easier. He loves dancing! Making up sick moves on his own or popping in Just Dance for a half hour really helps turn his frown upside down.

  10. I have had T1 for 37 years. I don’t think there is enough room to describe all the things I do to get me by. One of. You favorite language, it when bathing, and it’s infusion site change and cgm site change, I will be “diabetic free” so to say, for a short amount of time.
I’ve been telling my friends and family that for my birthday, which happens to be June 20th, I want a pancreas. And then send them the link to the guts page!!!

  12. My son (16) has had T1D for 11yrs now. He’s an awesome guy and is super smart…due to graduate high school a year early. I can see him punching around the pillow to let his “bad diabetes days” frustrations out. He’ll be getting his drivers license soon so I’m sure he’ll use the keychain for his car keys.

  13. We pound our frustrations out by writing poetry and short stories! That way, we’re mentally tired and we don’t have time to focus on the negatives!

  15. We pound out Diabetes by Irish dancing. It can be so hard for my 12 year old daughter keeping levels right while intense dance but she tries her hardest and I am so proud of her. She could easily give up and just let dumbest beat her but she’s so determined to achieve her goals. Would love to win! Thanks for the comp

  16. I “pound out” my frustrations by yelling at the sky. I just throw my head back, point my arms down, and unleash the rage from deep inside out via my screeching. Pretty sure our neighbors (and anyone on the road who sees me) are alarmed by it at first, but it really helps calm my mind. And I feel a hell of a lot better afterwards. Have a few family with Diabetes, and both parents, so it’s a constant worry.

  17. I normally scream to get out frustrations.
But always making sure no one is home:-)
Back in the 80’s living at home with my parents I also practiced this méthode and after me screaming, the doorbell rang, being the newspaper boy who was worried because of me screaming:-)
Nowadays I always continue the screaming with and I’m okay now!
And my neighbors know that’s how I deal with frustrations<3

Loads of love and wellbeing your way💨💕

  20. Love the idea of punching the pancreas to get out frustrations. This would be perfect to take out my stress and frustration of my health issues as well as the daily stress of a PhD. Thanks to you, Luke, and others who remind me of why my research is so important 🙂

  21. Love the” I Heart Guts” site… I made a pancreas pillow for my daughter for she is studying diabetes and pursuing her PhD in diabetes research. Frustration can be hard to overcome, but there are a lot of ways to help: dancing, exercise, finding a new hobby, reading, laughing and even singing. My mom has geriatric diabetes and she uses a stress ball, to help calm her down when her readings are off.

  22. My mom is the one with T1D. I grew up with that. It was always normal to me. I would even help my mom check her blood sugar. One night her sugar went low or high (still not sure to this day) and she passed out on the couch with me there. I was about 4. I thought she just fell asleep. My grandma came home and had to call 911. I just remember screaming to everyone “she’s just asleep!” Then a medic came to ask me if I noticed anything wrong before she “fell asleep”. I remember saying “she didn’t take her shot” meaning her insulin. It was the scariest night of my life.
My favorite way to pound out my frustrations is to remember that night and remember that my mom’s still here and that things could be worse. ❤

  23. I’ve been a Type 1 Diabetic for over 30 years and I wish I had a way to “pound out” my frustrations. The only thing I can think of to do when I’m frustrated is to take it out on the treadmill! I bought a pancreas pin for my Endocrinologist for Christmas and I’ve always wanted a plush one for myself!

  24. I have had T1 diabetes for almost 17 years now. I just finished my first year of college and my blood sugar was all over the board, it was extremely frustrating! I usually don’t pound it out, but I sleep it off while watching some Netflix, which always helps. Also making my boyfriend take care of me when my blood sugar is out of wack is a plus to the crappiness of diabetes 😅
