A new norm · Everyday life.

Snack time.

My grocery list has changed significantly since Luke’s diagnosis. I try to have plenty of “zero” snacks for him to eat between meals. These are snacks that are 8g of carbs or less & he doesn’t have to bolus (give himself insulin) for. I’m always on the look out for new ones, so if you have new ideas for me, I’d love to hear them!

Here are our tried & true zeroes.

Justin’s Maple Almond Butter

The individual pouches are perfect for breakfasts and snack times. No measuring! Luke wanted to try the vanilla flavored next, so I bought it for him. He ate a pouch for breakfast and his sugar spiked. The vanilla actually has 11g of sugar! Oops!

Hormel Mini Pepperoni Snac Pacs

I actually found these individually packed snacks at Walmart! It was a happy shopping day.

Planters Men’s Health Individually Packaged Nuts

Luke loves having these stashed in my classroom to grab as an after-school snack.

Sugar Free Jell-O with Redi-Whip

These are great for when he’s got a sweet tooth!

Colby-Jack Cheese Sticks

Who doesn’t love cheese sticks??

Slim Jims

Luke likes these smaller versions of Slim Jims. Shoot, who am I kidding? He likes any Slim Jims. These, and the cheese sticks, are his favorite snacks.

I would love for him to eat veggies & dip, but I can’t convince him that veggies are a yummy snack yet. Let me know if you have any snacks that you or your child loves that are 8g of carbs or fewer! We’d love to add some new ones into our rotation!
