Camp John Warvel, part 3.

I am so grateful that the camp has staff in charge of taking pictures and posting them on social media! I love seeing Luke at camp, doing what kids at camp do. And, while he has a scowl on his face in most of the pictures, I think he really is having a good time.… Continue reading Camp John Warvel, part 3.

135 and rising to 46 in no time flat.

It’s SUMMER! We’re pretty flexible, schedule-wise, any time of the year. However, when summer hits, we celebrate by having super flexible schedule for the first week or so. We eat when we’re hungry. We play outside when we feel like it. We don’t really have a set bedtime. We had dinner around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. (Because… Continue reading 135 and rising to 46 in no time flat.

Jumpstart outta bed.

Nothing gets me out of bed faster than a Dexcom alarm going off because it hasn’t had data in four hours. Luke usually hovers around 100 all night; however, when this happens, I always think, “What if…” Fortunately, he was walking out of his room as I was approaching his door to check on him… Continue reading Jumpstart outta bed.

Our cellist.

Luke has played cello in the orchestra for a year now. It’s amazing the difference between the 5th grade orchestra and the 6th grade orchestra. I remember sitting in the audience a year ago, listening to the sixth graders and thinking, “Seriously? That will be Luke in a year?” And one year later, it is… Continue reading Our cellist.

Crazy Dexcom.

A few weeks ago, Luke was scootering, like he usually does while he’s waiting for dinner to be made. As I was cooking, I hear the “urgent low” alarm go off on his Dex. When I checked my phone, I saw this: The word LOW means that his sugar level is at an urgent low… Continue reading Crazy Dexcom.

Braver than I am.

Luke’s Dexcom sensor fell out of his arm during swimming on Thursday. Falling out during swimming is not uncommon. That pool water isn’t the greatest for Dexcom adhesive. The fact that it happened on a Thursday afternoon was the problem. Joel works on Thursday nights. And Joel is the one who does the Dexcom changes.… Continue reading Braver than I am.

More low-to-no carb snack favorites.

Last December, I posted a few of Luke’s “zero snacks.” These are snacks that he can usually eat without bolusing because they are either low carb or don’t have carbs at all. As you can imagine, eating the same low carb foods over and over can get old. So we are always looking for new ideas… Continue reading More low-to-no carb snack favorites.

It’s not all sunshine and rainbows.

Luke had a rough evening. After playing outside for a bit, he came in and spent some time in his room. He does that often. I figured he was just playing or reading or drawing. The next thing I know, he comes out into the living room, his eyes on the verge of overflowing with… Continue reading It’s not all sunshine and rainbows.

Crazy to think about.

I found this photo floating around Facebook. I’m not sure where it originally came from, but it’s (pretty obviously) not mine. It sure does give us a good picture of what Luke, and all the other T1Ds go through every month. Yes, I said every month. Seeing the kid on the left, I’m so glad Luke… Continue reading Crazy to think about.

Scootering.

Luke is an only child, there is no one “fun” to play with here at home. And while we love our neighborhood, it is pretty transient, so anytime someone to play with moves in, Luke may eventually meet him, but they don’t stick around long. So, Luke has learned to find independent fun. His latest kick… Continue reading Scootering.
